Critical Commentary

Ambee's air monitor contains sensors for various fractions of PM (1, 2.5, 10), and gases like carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, and formaldehyde. Most portable, low-cost (relatively) monitors tend to be for measuring indoor air, but this is specifically designed for monitoring ambient (well-mixed, outdoor) air. Data collected from these sensors is fed to a webserver, generating a live air pollution map showing the city's pollution hotspots, and recommendations for personal activities like jogging or bicycling, and taking children outdoors. One device costs INR 7,999.
